"I don't know what you're babbling about, D.J. I gave you the dream, but I certainly didn't give the same dream to Christian. I couldn't have. He's not my charge. I can't mess with his head like I can with yours." |

The anger left D.J. in a rush, leaving her tired and weak with shock. "You didn't give him the dream?" |

"Isn't that what I just said? If he had a dream, then the dream was his. What he feels for you is real. Just as what you feel for him is real. If you'd only let yourself believe." |

"B-but I'm not his soul mate. There is no such thing as a soul mate. No such thing as love." |

Josie shook her head. "You are a stubborn one. At least Christian recognized the truth at last. Now you can get on with your lives, and I can get on with my death." |

For once D.J. could think of nothing to say. No snappy comeback, no sarcastic comment. Because now she was really frightenedor, if the truth be told, out-and-out terrified. If what Josie said was true, it was too late for her. The heavy, thick, syrupy feeling lodged deep in her throat wasn't tears; it was love. She loved Christian McCalland he loved her. And that was very, very bad. |

Believing in love meant she could be destroyed by love, just as her father had been. She couldn't face that. |

The angel touched her on the shoulder, and D.J. turned to look into Josie's concerned blue eyes. "Why do you fight love, D.J.? You could be so happy. All you have to do is reach out and grab it. It's right there waiting for you." |
